Home Organizing Basics

Papers piling up on the table, a pile of dirty clothes on the chair, drawers where you can never find anything, and cabinets that are in chaos. Living in disorder creates restlessness and prevents you from being comfortable in the place where you are supposed to be most calm and carefree: your own home. For all these reasons, a good home organization will allow you to have more time for yourself and reduce your stress levels.

Today’s lifestyle, lack of time and smaller homes sometimes prevent us from keeping our home well organized. And it is not just an aesthetic issue, clutter directly affects our health. Therefore, looking for a solution will also be of great help for our emotional well-being.

1. Sort Your Stuff

Spend a reasonable amount of time making a first selection of those pieces that have really been out of use for a long time.

Stop saving everything, especially everything that is not functional and does not really bring you anything. Many times this simple gesture of getting rid of things can bring a lot of satisfaction.

Donate or sell items that are no longer used or are duplicates – things that you can do without and would rather give it to someone else for them to benefit from.

2. Storage systems

Properly arranged containers, are a key element that will help you in the arduous task of how to organize a messy house.

Baskets or storage containers can be used to store things, as well as fill and decorate corners and add texture and color.

And what about the glass jars? They are a lifesaver for rooms like the kitchen, where we need to store a large number of products.

If you have enough space, try to place the same type of element inside drawers. Use trays and dividers to make the most of available space, keeping everything in sight and easily accessible.

3. Take your time

Putting an entire home in order is a gigantic task, so you don´t have to get discouraged. And most importantly: always be clear that any effort you make to organize in your environment, no matter how small, is better than doing nothing.

Organize your house in stage, thinking of each place as an independent project and you will see how easy it is for you. Don´t be discouraged! Organizing is not something that is done in a day, it is rather a lifestyle and a way of approaching day to day.

4. Stay Focused

Getting to have the house tidy day by day is not so complicated with a few simple steps. In fact, it is more than necessary to keep it in perfect condition and make cleaning much more bearable. The ideal is to create a series of routines and habits that help you maintain order.

  1. Make the bed when you wake up.
  2. Wash the dishes after every meal.
  3. Put things away after each use.
  4. Pick up the clothes you take off when you get home.
  5. If you see something dirty, clean it.
